Elopement: Tidal Basin in Washington DC
Their DC Elopement took place at the Tidal Basin in Washington DC. They wanted to take a few photos prior to them sharing their vows, so we met at the National Gallery Art East Wing. We were running ahead of schedule so we ordered a quick drink at a bar in DC. As we entered, everyone congratulated the couple resulting in some free drinks. No complaints there. Once we felt like the timing was right, we head out to the Tidal Basin for their elopement and vows. At the end of the elopement, we were greeted by a beautiful rainbow. Somethings just fall into place.
DC Wedding Permit via NPS:
For those who plan to do an elopement at the Tidal Basin, please check the NPS permits website. The permit FAQs will be your best guide for this. Look under “Which kind of permit application do I need for my activity tab” and find the “Commercial Filming and/or Photography” form. While it doesn’t take long to process and obtain the permit, doing so 1-2 weeks prior will ensure you receive the proper documents to photograph there.
“We met while working on a tiny island in the middle of the Indian Ocean and fell in love beneath the stars. We currently work on opposite coasts and our work environments and operational schedules altered our intended wedding date. But all is for the best as our situation sparked our creativity and lead to our current plan, which ultimately feels more suited for us.”
We started at the National Gallery of Art for some initial photos.
We ended a bit earlier than scheduled, so I suggested we go gets drinks before we head out to the tidal basin for the ceremony. Upon arrival, we can find a place to share their vows.
After they read their vows, I provided them a little bit of space together, to be alone. Within a few minutes, the sun began to set and as we were walking, I looked to my left and we saw a rainbow start to form. We immediately took a detour and took some photos. They shared with me that on the island they met, they would frequently see the most beautiful rainbows. It was very fitting that we were able to see a rainbow that day. My heart is full again.
